Custom fonts are the fastest way to make your app stop looking like a template. The tricky part isn't loading them, it's the flash of unstyled text (or a blank screen) when you do it wrong. I show the full setup in the video: Google Fonts to to a splash screen that hides the loading entirely.
What's inside
- Download fonts from Google Fonts and add them to
- Load them asynchronously with the hook
- Apply them with on your Text components
- Block rendering until fonts are ready so nothing flashes
- Keep the splash screen up with until the UI is set
- Why loading too many font files slows down your app
